Thani Naadan! (absolutely traditional!) Well this is yet another simple curry which you can rely on any time-crunched day of your life. This is indeed a comforting food which can be stirred up on any rainy day for a bit of sunshine :) Kerala meal can be made special quite easily by combining an assortment of plain and simple dishes. Fish fry, thoran (vegetable stir fry of sorts), a portion of fluffy rice and a creamy tomato gravy is one of my favorite combination. So here is Thakkali Curry {Tomato curry}, a curry in a hurry!
Thakkali Curry {Tomato curry}
Ingredients:
3 Shallots /Pearl onion, finely chopped
2 Green chillies, slit lengthwise
2 Tomatoes, finely chopped
Small piece Ginger, finely chopped
1/2 cup Grated coconut
Few Cumin seeds
Few Mustard seeds
Few Curry leaves
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp Red Chilli powder
Salt, to taste
Water, as required
Method:
Notes: Serve hot with rice & any thoran (stir fry of sorts).
Thakkali Curry {Tomato curry}
Ingredients:
3 Shallots /Pearl onion, finely chopped
2 Green chillies, slit lengthwise
2 Tomatoes, finely chopped
Small piece Ginger, finely chopped
1/2 cup Grated coconut
Few Cumin seeds
Few Mustard seeds
Few Curry leaves
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp Red Chilli powder
Salt, to taste
Water, as required
Method:
- Heat little oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds followed by curry leaves.
- Add the chopped shallots and slit green chillies. Saute then until onions start to turn translucent.
- Now add the chopped tomatoes and little water. Let it boil until the tomatoes gets mashed well.
- Meanwhile grind the grated coconut, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt with water (as required) to a smooth paste.
- Add the ground coconut mixture to the tomatoes and let the whole mixture boil for few mins.
- Taste and adjust salt as preferred. Remove from fire.
Notes: Serve hot with rice & any thoran (stir fry of sorts).
