Dal is a sort of comfort food for us. It is one among the popular favorites everyone loves to pair with Indian bread or simple fluffy rice.
A quick and easy recipe which never lets you down! At home we would make a simple meal out of rice & dal and some yogurt. A little pickle by the side is all that is needed to spice up the meal :)

1 cup Toor Dal

Oil/ Ghee, little

1 Onion, finely chopped
1 Tomato, finely chopped
small piece Ginger, finely chopped
2 Green Chillies, slit lengthwise
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp Garam masala (optional)
Few Coriander leaves, chopped
Method:
- Rinse and cook toor dal with enough water and little salt until done. I use pressure cooker as it cooks a lot quicker that way. Dal should be soft and mushy now. Safely open the pressure cooker after it cools down.
- In a pan, heat some oil/ ghee and splutter cumin seeds. Add the chopped onions and saute it further until it starts to turn brown.
- Add the chopped ginger and slit green chillies, mix well.
- Tip in the chopped tomato and saute until it turns soft. Mix in turmeric powder, garam masala (if using), chopped coriander leaves.
- Now add the cooked dal and stir well. Add water (if required) to get the desired consistency. Adjust the salt on tasting.
- Remove from fire and garnish with some more coriander leaves.
♥ Thank you ♥
